Designs

Embeds, component sets and modals are reusable designs that message steps refer to.

Designs are things your flows send that you build once and reuse. A step refers to a design by name, and the runtime carries the design along with the blueprint.

Embeds

An embed is a formatted card in a message. It has these parts:

PartWhat it does
NameHow you find the embed in the builder. Members don't see it.
ColorThe stripe along the card's left edge.
AuthorA line above the title.
Title and URLThe heading, which links to the URL when you set one.
DescriptionThe main text.
FieldsName and value pairs. Fields marked inline sit side by side.
Thumbnail and imageWhether to show a small or large picture.
FooterSmall text at the bottom.
TimestampWhether to show when the message was sent.

Text parts accept tokens.

Component sets

A component set is a group of rows that a message can attach. Each row is one of three types.

Buttons

A row of up to five buttons. Each button has a label, an emoji, a style, and optionally an action.

Styles are primary, secondary, success, danger and link.

A button with an action starts that button action flow when pressed, for as long as the message exists. The button's data is filled in when the message is sent and is available to the flow as {component.data}.

A button without an action continues the run that sent it, which works for a day. It also gives the sending step a way out of its own. See Message with buttons.

Select menu

A drop-down with a placeholder and choices. Each choice has a label, a description and an emoji. In a Message with a select menu, each choice is a way out.

Buttons from rows

A row that makes one button for each matching row of a collection, at the moment the message is sent. Use it for choices that exist only at run time, such as the options of a poll.

  • Every template (label, emoji, data) is filled in once per row, with the row's columns as {item.column}.
  • You can filter with where and sort with order.
  • Max limits the number of buttons, up to 25.
  • Every five buttons take one of a message's five rows, so a message can hold at most 25 buttons.
  • These buttons have no run to continue, so they always start a button action.

Modals

A modal is a form that opens over Discord. It has a title and inputs. Each input has a label, a placeholder, a style (short or paragraph) and a required setting. After someone submits it, each answer is available as {modal.label}, where the label is lowercased and joined with underscores: "Your idea" becomes {modal.your_idea}.

Open a modal with Send a form.
