# Use Buildcord from ChatGPT and Claude

> Connect Buildcord to ChatGPT, Claude or another AI app, then build and change your bots by asking in a chat.

You can build your bots from an AI app you already use. Connect Buildcord to ChatGPT, Claude or another app that supports remote MCP servers, then ask for what you want in the chat. The app makes the changes in your bot's draft, and you deploy from the builder as usual.

## What it is

Buildcord has a remote MCP server at this address:

```text
https://api.buildcord.dev/mcp
```

An AI app connects to it, you sign in to Buildcord once, and the app can then read and change your bots. It can do the same things as the agent built into the builder. In ChatGPT, it also shows a widget with your bot's flows and draws any flow as a diagram, with a button to open it in Buildcord.

The address is also shown in the builder, under **Account** > **AI apps**.

## Connect ChatGPT

### Turn on developer mode

In ChatGPT, open **Settings** > **Apps** > **Advanced settings**, then turn on **Developer mode**.

### Create the app

Select **Create app**. Paste `https://api.buildcord.dev/mcp` as the address, and choose **OAuth** for authentication.

### Sign in and allow

ChatGPT opens Buildcord. Sign in, read what the app is asking for, then select **Allow**.

## Connect Claude

### Add a connector

In Claude, open **Settings** > **Connectors**, then select **Add custom connector**. Paste `https://api.buildcord.dev/mcp` as the address.

### Sign in and allow

Select **Connect**. Claude opens Buildcord. Sign in, read what the app is asking for, then select **Allow**.

## Other apps

Any app that supports remote MCP servers with OAuth sign-in can connect. Add a remote MCP server with the address `https://api.buildcord.dev/mcp`, then sign in to Buildcord and allow access when the app asks.

## Signing in

The first time an app connects, you sign in to Buildcord the same way you do in the builder: with Discord, an emailed code, a password or a passkey. Then a consent page lists what the app is asking for:

| Access | What it lets the app do |
| --- | --- |
| See your bots | Read your bots and how they're built. |
| Build and change your bots | Change flows, designs, data and settings. |
| Your name and email | Know who you are. |

Nothing is shared until you select **Allow**.

## What it can do

- List your bots, and create new ones.
- Read a bot's outline, and any of its flows, embeds, component sets, modals, variables and collections.
- Create flows of every kind: slash commands, right-click commands, event listeners, schedules, button actions, sub-flows and webhooks. Then add their steps and wire them together.
- Change a flow's settings.
- Create and edit embeds, buttons and select menus, modals, variables and collections, including a collection's starting rows.
- Change the bot's name, description, presence and intents.
- Delete things. The app asks you to confirm first.

Every change is checked the same way the builder checks it. If something is wrong, the problems go back to the AI so it can fix them.

## What it can't do

- See or set secrets, or the bot's token.
- Deploy. Use the **Deploy** button in the builder when you're happy with the changes.
- Touch anything on Discord, such as your servers, members or messages.

Changes land in the bot's draft. If the bot is open in the builder, the builder picks them up as long as it has no unsaved edits of its own.

## Limits

- Requests are rate-limited for each person.
- Bots you create through an AI app count towards your plan's bot limit, like any other. See [Plans](https://docs.buildcord.dev/concepts/plans).
- It doesn't use your builder agent turns. The AI app's own model does the thinking.

## Privacy and disconnecting

The app only gets the access listed on the consent page, and only for your own account. It never sees your bots' tokens or secrets.

To disconnect an app, open **Account** > **AI apps** in the builder and remove it. You can connect it again at any time.

## Example prompts

- "Make my bot a /poll command that posts a question with up to four buttons and counts the votes."
- "Add a welcome message for new members with an embed."
- "Show me the /ticket flow."
- "Why won't my bot deploy?" The AI reads the bot's problems and explains, or fixes, them.

## Troubleshooting

### Sign-in keeps starting over

Make sure you select **Allow** on the consent page. If you close it or deny access, the app can't connect and asks you to sign in again.

### "Someone else has changed this bot"

The bot changed since the app last read it, often because you edited it in the builder at the same time. Reload the bot in the builder, or ask the AI to read the bot again and retry.

### The app says you've made too many requests

You've reached the rate limit. Wait a minute, then ask again.

> **Note: Deploy from the builder**
>
> Changes made from an AI app stay in the bot's draft until you deploy. Open the bot in the builder, check the changes on the canvas, then select **Deploy**.
